New-build gardens
Most new-build gardens are handed over uneven and low effort, with rubble just below the surface and a lawn that holds water. We clear, level, drain and landscape them properly.
What’s wrong with a new-build garden?
Usually the effort that went into it, or didn’t.
A typical new-build garden comes with a few slabs, some thin turf, and uneven ground with building rubble just below the surface. The ground is often heavily compacted from the build, so rain has nowhere to go and sits on the lawn.
How much does it cost to sort out a new-build garden?
Clearing, levelling, fencing and turfing a typical plot is usually £3,000 to £10,000, plus VAT, and takes 2 to 4 weeks. Adding patios, paths and planters takes it further, like our Meir garden at about £14,000.
A new-build garden in Meir, started again
Meir, Stoke-on-Trent: about £14,000, about 4 weeks
A standard new-build garden: uneven, a few slabs, very low effort, and water pooling in the middle of the lawn every time it rained.
We dug it out and started again: a large grey sandstone patio by the house, a path up to a second patio with a pergola and seating area, and timber sleeper planters all the way round. We fixed the drainage while it was all dug out, so the water no longer sits on the grass.

Common questions
How soon after moving in can you start?
As soon as you’re ready, as long as the housebuilder has finished any snagging outside.
Can you fix a lawn that holds water?
Yes. We sort the drainage while the garden is dug out, like we did in Meir.
Do you take a deposit?
No. You pay as the job goes, and the final payment is only due when it’s finished.
