A Low-Maintenance Family Garden with a Play Area
A young family with one little one, and a garden that wasn’t usable: uneven ground with just a few slabs down.
What did we build?
A big beige porcelain patio right by the house, with porcelain slabs leading up the garden to a second patio at the back, a spot for the barbecue. In the gap between the garage and the fence, we made a bark-chip play area for their child.
Why so little lawn?
They wanted it low maintenance, so we only left a small square of grass that’s quick and easy to look after, with raised sleeper beds along the fence.

New-Build Garden, Started Again
A standard new-build garden: uneven, a few slabs down, and very low effort from the housebuilder. Water also used to pool in the middle of the lawn every time it rained.
What did we build?
We dug it out and started again. There’s now a large grey sandstone patio by the house, chosen for its more natural look, with a path leading up to a second large patio with a pergola and seating area. Timber sleeper planters run all the way round the edges.
How did we fix the waterlogged lawn?
We sorted the drainage while the garden was dug out, so the water no longer sits in the middle of the grass. New-build gardens often have this problem, because the ground is compacted during the build.
